What can you do to fulfill the 7th Generation Prophecy?

During her presentation on the seventh generation prophecy, Emily Faries said many young people from Nishnawbe Aski Nation territory have spoken of the desire to relearn ancient spiritual beliefs and practices.

Often many young people feel like they are “missing something.”

“As young people, even if they don’t know of the prophecy, they feel it in their hearts,” says Faries.

Faries encouraged the youth at the Seven Sacred Teachings Youth Gathering in Thunder Bay to learn as much as they can of traditional practices. Having said that, Faries says many young people tell her they can’t bring traditional items, such as drums or sage, into their communities.

“You don’t need those things right now,” Faries told the youth at the gathering. “You can pray in your heart.”
She provided a list of things that young people could do to fulfill an ancient prophecy:

• Learn as much as you can about traditional spirituality

• Go to places where ceremonies and traditional gatherings are happening

• Go fasting to find direction/guidance in your life

• Be with positive people who support you

• Connect with people who can help you

• Get your spirit name

• Connect with the Creator, through praying, going out on the land, singing

• Set goals in your life i.e. education goals, how you can help your people

• Encourage others to find healing through traditional spirituality

• Pray every day, Creator is always with you

• Protect and respect Mother Earth

• Respect your life, because it is Creator’s gift to you; your gift to Creator is what you do in your life

• Always remember that you have been chosen to be the Seventh Generation!!
