Things I learned today while conducting very important Internet research
I’ve got to say I was impressed today to learn that the Ojibway exclamation Howah! is defined at urbandictionary.com as is the Cree exclamation Jishtug!
Without further ado, here are the definitions they present:
Howah
1) An expression used exclusively by Ojibways used to express awestruck wonder or amazement at another’s or ones own actions, especially to boost the ego.
2) A brief form of expression used to hold another or oneself in high regard, especially after accomplishing an amazing feat.
3) A verbal pat-on-the-back used by Ojibways, proverbially equal to that of a “way to go!”
Used in a sentence: "Howah! Look how bow-legged my kid is when he''s running!"
And the definition for Jishtug:
Short for a Cree language expression that means ‘over doing it'' or ‘ever over do it,’ followed by extreme laughter.
Renee says: Gus I got my Rag! Phew... Thank God!! It smells like your breath.
Gus says: Jishtug! Here I thought I had a nosebleed last night.
It’s kind of funny that our languages are represented on a website that caters to the young and hip.
I like it!
