2010 - Year of the Metis

Dallas Fiddler-Boyer wrote into SEVEN Youth Magazine letting us know the Government of Canada declared 2010 The Year of the Metis. Essentially what he said was the intention behind it was to honour and celebrate Metis Culture and to bring awareness and understanding to the public about who they are, what they do and where they stand in the social landscape of Canada's culture.

I once talked to the head of one of the Metis Nation of Ontario offices - he told me that most people think of the Metis as a "special interest group" rather than as a distinct group of Aboriginal people who have rights, title and all the recognition that goes with being a nation. So how come so many people think that?
