SEVEN Youth Radio July 22, 2010

On this edition of SEVEN Youth Radio, we'll hear from a young man whose intense training schedule in Japanese Karate and Korean Tae Kwon Do as well as martial arts weapons forms now has him competing at the international level representing Canada. We also talk with a Fort Hope girl who, at three years old, talked her parents into getting her a violin and hear what she’s been able to achieve with it since she started taking lessons. But first we are going to hear from two first Nation leaders about the number of new initiatives they are doing alongside their community members in order to address a recent escalation of the number of suicides in their communities.

SEVEN Youth Radio - June 24, 2010

SEVEN honoured an extraordinary youth activist and youth leader who came out of our territory in 2008 after having made a stand that she was looking for a better school and better educational standards for her community members during a special segment it aired in her honour. Shannen Koostachin, 15, of Attawapiskat FN was tragically killed late on Monday, May 31st after a minivan she was travelling in as a passenger collided head on with a transport truck on Highway 11 in northeastern Ontario near New Liskeard where she was going to school. An International Children’s Peace Prize nominee, Shannen spoke both provincially and nationally advocating for a new school and better educational standards in her community. While her fight for a new school was ultimately won, Shannen had yet to see better educational standards that she wanted for First Nations youth implemented at the time of her death. This is her story. We also have on the show, a group of 20 somethings who are very involved as parents to their children. This panel discussion deals with how technology – TV, video games, cell phones, and the Internet – impacts their relationships with their children.

SEVEN Youth Radio - May 27, 2010

SEVEN interviewed two elders with the simple question: How did people eat, prepare and store food before there were pots, pans, dishes, utensils and even fridges and stoves? We learned about what foods the people ate, how they prepared them and the different kinds of dishes there were and how they got around storing food so it didn’t go bad while they were travelling long distances. Adrian Sutherland also joined us to talk about his out of the ordinary, folksy, alternative brand of guitar and vocals. The Attawapiskat musician also shared his favourite and originally written song called mosum it is a piece in which he pays homage to his grandfather, home and culture.

Wondering (if I will see you again) by Lance Kejick Echum

Wondering (if I will see you again)
-----------

I have a photograph of you in my mind
Time hasn't changed it all and I wonder why I spend my nights thinking of you while I look up at the sky... you could have been the one but I just let our love wither away and die.

All of these voices in my head are screaming out your name
I live everyday wondering if I will see you again
All of these voices in my head are screaming out your name
I live everyday wondering if I will see you again
All of these voices in my head are screaming out your name
I live everyday wondering if I will see you again...

There's no way I could be forgiven for everything I have done
choice's were made and to this day I know they were wrong.
I just wish we could go back to the days when we both felt the exact same way...
or at least back to the moment when we kissed eachother...
in the pouring rain.

All of these voices in my head are screaming out your name
I live everyday wondering if I will see you again
All of these voices in my head are screaming out your name
I live everyday wondering if I will see you again
All of these voices in my head are screaming out your name
I live everyday wondering if I will see you again
All of these voices in my head are screaming out your name
I live everyday wondering if I will see you again...
